SHIBBY! MADE IN ITALY!

I love this picture of Shibby. this is the last picture of her in her little ghetto house, because NOW, we have:
After a tiring day at work and a windy, dusty trip to Andrews, I came home and Rick and I went to PetSmart, and we got THIS. I don't know if she likes it or not, but since it is MADE IN ITALY!, I can't possibly see why she would have any problems with it. She is completely hilarious. Target Cuteness.

Approximately four weeks ago, I saw this necklace at Target, and almost bought it, but thought to myself....do I really need to spend $20 on a necklace? I decided against it and went on my merry way. Today, I had to stop by there to pick up a few things, and I thought to myself, "I'm sure that cute necklace isn't there anymore. I should have picked it up the last time I was here." On a whim, I cruise over to the plastic jewelry section, with no expectations whatsoever, and lo and behold. There she was... AND ON CLEARANCE. I also found these cute note cards: (sorry for the blur, I have yet to master the new camera).
Despite it being Monday, it was a pretty good day... I got some checks in the mail I'd been waiting for, and I also received these from A. Bel Emporium on Etsy.:

I have about 18 and can't wait to use them in my little projects. I also found these at Cherry Pie Punk's store on etsy:
I just want them. I don't know why.

Like I said, today went well - I was pleased with the mail, work went quickly, I saw Rick this morning before work, and I got to spend some time with Big Rick...then Rick Rick and I sat down for a bit and talked about some interesting stuff that happened at work today for both of us. I'm not really sleepy right now, but I need to go to bed....

Tomorrow, I am buying Shibby a new cage.

P.S. My knees accurately predicted the rain we had on Sunday morning.

Night!!

SEVEN PRRNT TWO MEGAPIXELS.

I realize 7.2mp is really not a big deal, but as I have previously discussed, I am used to my 3.2mp piece of junk, so I am wholeheartedly thrilled about doubling that, and then some. Since I'm so excited about my new purchase, I'm including some random photos I took of my craft things:
Jar of brushes and some tinsel garland I threw on there .....
YARN!!!

This weekend was nice. My nephew stayed the night with me on Saturday, we went out for breakfast with Rick this morning and then we went home and ate popsicles and watched Spongebob....then my sister and mom came to pick him up, and I met up with Rick and we wandered around for a bit and then we ate some pizza, which was excellent and talked about his birthday present, which, if he has truly made up his mind, is this:
For reference purposes, I will tell you that the wingspan is wider than I am tall. I realize that's not saying much, but before I saw an RC plane, I thought they were little. They're not. The bigger Yak and Ultimate biplane he has actually have MOTORBIKE ENGINES in them. Crazy.

Anyhoo, back to the grind tomorrow. Gnite!

Oh Yes.

All one must do, when in a fix regarding their old, throwback, 3.2mp, dinosaur camera, is tell their older sister that they will sell it to her for twenty dollars. Then, one need only go to Wal-Mart, and tell the young man at the photo desk, "I want to spend one-hundred dollars, and I want a camera that is 6mp or better, takes video, has an sd slot, and at least a two inch LCD screen." And said young man will take a red Samsung camera out of the case, ring you up, you give him your one hundred and eight dollars, and you walk out with digital perfection. No more bulky, four-AA battery using, crappy resolution, no sd card using relic of a camera.

I will not go into the fact that my new camera has a NINETY ONE PAGE user's manual. I need an engineering degree to figure it out. But I'll get it.

Another electronic that has found it's way into my home recently:
My new HP Compaq Presario F700, which I practically STOLE from Best Buy. And a plastic chocolate bunny.

Today went well - I took my dog (I will miss you, Emma) to her new owner, cried, went flying with Rick at the airfield, met up with my Mom, sister, and nephew, went back to Rick's with my nephew to look at his planes, and now my nephew is staying the night. YAY!!

Until tomorrow, dears. I'm off to entertain the nephew and play with the new cameRAH.

Busy Bee.

I made two crochet hook rolls today. I am not a very good seamstress; I only recently figured out that I needed to put the thread through the thread guide on the top of that whole foot/needle contraption. It was a lot easier today than the last time I did this, for two reasons:

  • I resolved the aforementioned thread guide issue.
  • I used sew-in interfacing instead of remnant fleece.
The first roll I made, which you see here, is for Rick's great aunt, who is usually known as "Tia Mary". She crochets stuff for church bazaars, and other people all the time, and never asks for anything in return, so I thought she might like one of these - I made one for myself a long time ago. I did ok, until I was ready to sew the sides together and realized I'd put the pocket on inside out, so I had to pull out the good old seam ripper... (groan.)

This was the only huge mistake I made. For some reason the fabric still kind of bunches up on me a little, and I'm thinking right now that my presser foot is set a little too low. Anyhoo, after correcting the pocket, sewing the sides, turning it inside out, and ironing it , it turned out like this:
I liked using the interfacing way more than the fleece (which made the roll too fat), so I took some of my hoarded vintage fat quarters, and made a new one for me too:

Yay!! FYI, I am still totally unhappy with my camera, so hopefully by next week, I will have taken care of that. Forget this 3.2 mega pixel crap. What a joke.

I'm feeling a little better today - I fell asleep around midnight, and did not wake up until 11:45. Rick called around 7, and I talked to him for a little bit, but I barely remember it, because I was still half asleep. He asked me later if I wanted to go eat lunch with him at the office, so I did. Since then, I've been working on these little needle rolls.

Plans for tonight - I think I'm going to Starbucks with Big Rick, (not Rick Rick). I know that Rick Rick is just as tired as I am, if not more, and I've had twelve hours of sleep....he hasn't. So he needs time to rest.

Here's my little roll!! More later - I must find more crafty things to do.

Ta Ta!!

Oh, And By The Way....

You cannot watch these ladies and stay bummed out. You simply cannot.

Good Gracious, Does This Come In Adult Sizes??

Wow. For the past two days I've been complaining about being tired, and just tonight I was watching CSI and some woman had a little baby in her arms and I got tears in my eyes.

What in the sam hill is THAT all about?
What or where is Sam Hill?

ANYWAY, I will list my current ailments, for those of you who are interested:

- My knees are killing me, which means it will probably rain sometime in the next 72 hours. Rick always rolls his eyes when I say this, and for good reason, because the last two times I have predicted rain, I've been wrong. They're really aching tonight though. I'll let you know how it turns out. Right now it's really just kind of annoying.

- My right hamstring is sore from golf practice the other day. I wore heels to work today which did not help.

- My body is all crampy and tired.

- I have been going to bed way too late and have been taking naps, which I rarely do. This sucks because it is causing me to totally crash at work at about 3:00pm.

- Who the hell cries when they see a baby on CSI? I am so emotionally sensitive right now that I am getting on my OWN nerves.

- Rick is tired as well, and I wish he was feeling better.

I will stop griping now.

On a more positive note, the ripple afghan is coming along nicely, and I don't work on Fridays anymore, so hopefully I'll be able to spend the day making the projects that I talked about on my previous post. I'm new to sewing, so it should be interesting. I'll have to modify the needle roll pattern just a little, because the flap is too short to accommodate my bigger hooks, like the L. We'll see how it turns out.

And now, lovelies, I shall do what it is everyone should do when they are feeling sappy:

Fix myself a glass of pink lemonade, pop in the first season DVD of the Golden Girls, and crochet something.

Confession.

I don't care for reality television. I don't like American Idol or Survivor...and I have an especially
large amount of disdain for the VH1 shows, like I Love New York, or Rock of Love, or Flavor of Love, or ...well....any of them.

So why do I love Miss Rap Supreme? I don't know. Maybe I can appreciate it a little bit more because it's not a bunch of skanks in a house competing for a man. I suppose I'm being a bit of a hypocrite, because I like Top Chef - maybe I like occupationally geared reality shows. Yes, that's it.

I'm feeling a skoach off today - my sleep cycle has been off, and I'm getting tired during the day. I took a two hour nap today, and I probably need to go to bed by midnight tonight. Tomorrow is my last day of work for the week, thank goodness, and I have the topic for group already planned out, so hopefully it will be low-stress. It was hot and windy today too, which always tends to affect my allergies and general well-being.

I am working on several crafty projects that I will share with you soon - I'm still in the market for a new camera, so hopefully I will have one by Monday or Tuesday.

I cleaned out my closet today. Finally.

Night night!!

Office Hostility

The older gentleman in the office that shares a wall with mine has had some sort of cough since yesterday. Here are the cough characteristics:

  • He is coughing with his mouth open, and sort of hacking at the same time, so it sounds like, "Caauuuaggghaaagh!!!"
  • For whatever reason, he is choosing NOT to expectorate, so that means he continues to cough, and, pardon my grossness here, with the same phlegm, no less.
  • It is loud and permeates down the hall AND around the corner. It is a tile floor, so there is also an echo.

Therefore, I have borrowed an image from this person on Flickr, to illustrate exactly what I would like to do for my co-worker.

Crappy things about today:

  • I left my jump drive somewhere in my apartment.
  • The aforementioned coughing.
  • I have to drive to Andrews to do group tonight.

Super things about today:

  • I started a ripple afghan.
  • I like my boss.
  • My job is easy.

YAY!

A Good Mess

I found some awesome embroidery patterns online today, so I pulled out my stash of floss, and this is what I found. Super. I used to like those little cards you see on the right there, but a few months ago, I bought a buttload of DMC long spools, which are so much easier to use. You just take the paper off, find the middle, and ease them on to the brackets. After work today, I sat around and turned this into:

This:
Nice, isn't it? I'm all OCD, and I love it when things are organized by color. Speaking of embroidery, I came across some really good blogs today, and here, without further ado, are my Favorite Blogs of the Day:

Feeling Stitchy
Florecita
What Not to Crochet

That What Not to Crochet blog is HILARIOUS. I was literally crying at work. The projects that she features are funny, but the beauty of the blog is the commentary. It's absolutely priceless. Anyone who can come up with the post title, "Another Case of Poncho-Derived Child Abuse" has my undying devotion. Whoever that woman is, she is an absolute scream.

Screaming is a good segue to the evening I experienced at the driving range. Let me set this up for you. I am spatially impaired. I have severe difficulty with depth perception, directions, hand eye coordination, etc. Ergo, golf is about the hardest thing I could possibly endeavor to learn, besides maybe astrophysics. As I've said before, Rick is excellent at everything, so of course, he is an excellent golfer. We went to the range today, I thought we'd just hit some balls and leave, but he started to help me, which is what I need. So he's helping me, and I just generally give a crappy performance. I have a few of good shots, and he's very supportive. We head over to the chipping green, which is where a difficult obstacle becomes virtually impossible. I can't grasp the concept of not bending my wrists. What? Grip below the shaft? Bend my elbow? Don't bend my wrists? Hands in front of the ball? What? This is completely different than just hitting the ball like normal, and I grow frustrated quickly. God bless Rick, he is there, pushing me to learn, helping me instead of going off and having fun practicing by himself, and to make a long, painful story short, I do not get the hang of it. After I head back to my apartment, tears begin to pour without me realizing it. I'm not angry or pouting that I'm not good at golf, for Pete's sake, I know I suck at it. I expect to suck. I think I just got very overwhelmed at trying to learn too much at once. I need to get the basics down, which means two things:

  1. I will learn to hit consistently with every club in my bag.
  2. I will not go anywhere NEAR the chipping green for a very long time.
And to add insult to injury, I got a blister on my left ring finger. Gravy. When I talked to Rick later, he thanked me for being patient with him.

Um no, thank you for being patient with me.

SIGH. Goodnight, lovelies. Does anyone even read this blog?

Shibby Says Hello

This is a very bad picture of my hamster, Shibby. See why I need a new camera? What is that purple haze thing on there? That is totally annoying!

I am exhausted right now. I got a lot done at work, and had a good meeting with my boss. I came home and then Rick and I went to fly the Yak over at the stadium. Hung out with his friend Mark for a little bit, and then we ate and I came home. I'm totally sleepy even though I took a little nap after work.

I've been wanting to crochet a lot lately - the last thing I made was that little gnome doll and a pink swatch I practiced the shell stitch on. I think tomorrow I'm going to sew two new needle rolls, and crochet two pillows that I want to give as gifts.

Ok ok ok. Totally boring entry. I'm sorry. I need sleep. Night night!!!

You Like?

This is my Sony Reader. I got it for myself as a Christmas present - my parents donated $100, which I am eternally grateful for.

This little contraption holds 60 books, without any media, and will hold about a million more with an sd card.
Right now, I'm reading this really great book by Anne Rice, which is about Jesus, but it's told from his point of view....in other words, Jesus is the one narrating the story. It's quite fascinating, and it's really given me a fresh outlook on my relationship with Christ. In all the worship, we forget his humanity. If anything, his human existence is what makes him so accessible.

Long, but enjoyable day. I got up late, cleaned up a little bit, went over to Rick's, and we went to get some gas and oil for the planes, and ate tacos. Then I came back home and continued to clean up my artsy space, and Rick called again, saying that he was ready to start up the new Bryson motor we bought a few weeks ago.

Wow.

Talk about LOUD. I'm not really a person who understands a whole lot about engines, and what not, but even I was impressed. I can't wait to see it fly. Not too long now.

It's 11, and I'd like to get some crocheting in before bed. Hasta manana!

HAPPY SUNDAY

I'm in a happy mood today. I shall share a happy greeting.

Working on some more artsy things this morning, will head over to Rick's in awhile. It's a pretty day out, might decide to go to the range, now that I know how to grip the club.

Kind of.

Peace!!

Assemblage.

I have been dying to do an assemblage for ages. I've had vague project ideas in the past, but no one concept ever struck me enough for anything to materialize besides a sketch. Today, driving back from Lubbock, Rick said something to me about all the propellers that I have at the house, and that I can, and should, do something artsy with them. And six hours later, this is what I gave birth to. The structures on top are actually the "skeleton" of a rudder and an elevator off of one of Rick's old crashed planes. Some of the parts, like those long wire things and the servo, are off of the same plane. Some of the stuff is vintage, like that "wing" card, the propeller on top, and all the papers that line the back of the box. I'm not entirely sure if it's done - I want Rick to take a look at it. We went to fly around 7:00, and I told him I was going to work on this tonight, and he said he was actually excited to see what I came up with.

He's interested in my art. Somebody pinch me.

My back kind of hurts right now because I've been standing up for four hours straight, working on this. My hands and arms are smeared with paint and glue, and I need to wash my hair. Before I commence said task, however, I will list some random events from today:

  • I did something TOTALLY Dukes of Hazard in the car today, which was scary and fun all at the same time. It was Rick's fault.
  • My parents, both siblings, and my nephew came to visit me this evening, which was cool.
  • My hamster....I am completely in love with my hamster.
  • I worked on my golf swing a little and realized I was gripping the club wrong. NICE.
  • We ate at Weinerschnitzel.
I have GOT to get in the shower and in bed. Here is a little detail shot from my assemblage:

The 54 stands for Rick's 50cc gas plane, which is a Yak54.
Goodnight, Peeps.

Happy Toolbox

Just a small glimpse into a little clear plastic toolbox I found that I proceeded to stuff with little scraps of paper and fabric and some old Strawberry Shortcake stickers, and other junk. Seeing all those little bright colored things in there all jumbled together makes me happy. I remember trying to amass little boxes of scraps as a child, but my mother always made me throw them away after awhile. It's colorful and pretty, and now that I'm old, no one can make me throw it away.

It's been a lazy day - I don't work on Fridays anymore, but I woke up at 5:45, stressing about bills, so I got up and paid some, and then I went back to sleep until 11, got up and went to visit my cousin Joann and her baby Isabella, and found out that they are expecting ANOTHER baby, which is awesome. I came back home and straightened up a little bit, and talked to Rick for just a little while, and I am currently sitting on the couch, contemplating whether or not I should buy a $30 shelf and put it in the corner of the dining room, because I am really beginning to NOT like scrapbooking in my bedroom. It's too messy and it's getting all on my nerves.

Well, I'm going to go throw my sheets in the washer and clean up my "creating space" AGAIN, since it seems to mess itself up every half hour or so.

Ain't nothing he's bad at.

I mentioned very briefly yesterday that Rick is excellent at everything - and he is. He is the most deliberate person I know. He makes me think of that saying, "How you do one thing is how you do everything." In this photo, he's flying one of his planes. He's not going full throttle, he's not doing anything foolish or impetuous. He's doing something beautiful - with intent...or "con carino", as he likes to say. He is conscientious enough about the impact he has on others to not just say things off the cuff, or without a solid foundation. He believes in respect, honesty, and fairness.

Plus, he has a mean golf swing, makes good eggs, and has an amazing smile.

I'm pretty sure I like him.

LAST NIGHT I totally had a nightmare that freaked me out. I don't remember a lot about it; only that I was in a house and there was something really scary and evil in it. I didn't see any shadows or monsters or ghosts or anything, I just had a feeling that something scary was in there with me. When I woke up at 1:50 a.m., I was still scared. I fell asleep and woke up exactly one hour later. I got scared again, and was kind of too creeped out to go back to bed, but I was exhausted and managed to fall back asleep and stay that way until the alarm rang this morning. I rarely have nightmares anymore, so it was weird. I was all, "Oh snap, I'm scared."

No foot injuries today, thankfully.

Group was exhausting, and I'm very glad that I don't have to work on Fridays. After work, I met Big Rick at Murray's, and then Rick Rick (see above) came and joined us. We spent a little bit more time together talking after dinner and then I went home and cleared up some internet issues with my dork provider. I got a phone call from my cousin Joann, who had a baby in October, and so I've made plans to see her and Isabella tomorrow for lunch. I'm excited to catch up with her.

I'm off to take a shower and go to bed now. It's lame that I'm so tired, but I'm coming to a certain level of acceptance regarding the fact that I am just old.

Goodnight!

Group.

Group Therapy
Originally uploaded by sophie.addison
Thursdays are tiring, but productive. I will run three groups today - I think they'll go pretty smoothly.....I get nervous sometimes, and then it's never as bad as I think it's going to be. In fact, it goes really well most of the time.

I hope today is a good day - I'm a little off kilter this morning because last night I had a really scary nightmare, and I don't really have nightmares anymore.

I wish there had been someone to talk to, but it was 1:50a.m.

Also, has anyone noticed that I had two foot injuries in two days?

See you later!

Prop Wall

For those of you who don't know, Rick and I fly planes. Well, Rick flies the plane and I stand around and watch him. I also help fuel, set up, tear down, and I make supportive comments, such as:

"OOH!"
"Nice!!"
"Pretty!!"

On a wall in my apartment is where we retire old propellers that we have broken, chipped, or that we can't use anymore. I like that we can share this hobby together. Those of you who know me know that I am spatially challenged, and I can't even make a remote control car go where I want it to, let alone a $1500 radio-controlled airplane. I'm happy to just stand back and live vicariously through Rick, who is excellent at everything, and knows what he's doing. I'm thankful that he's patient enough to keep me around. Today we sorted out some little airplane parts, watched Napoleon Dynamite, and ate Taco Villa.

I went and did group in Andrews, and was slightly unprepared, but I managed to pull it off.

And, since I've been home, here is what has happened.

- I was sitting at my desk, and I dropped my Cutterbee precision scissors right onto my middle right toe, slicing it open immediately. I had no idea that one toe could spew out so much blood.

- I replaced the batteries in my digital camera and the display finally started working again, but now it has funny lines on it, and really, I need a new one.

- The space where I do my crafty/arty/scrapbooky things, which I cleaned YESTERDAY, is messy again.

I also had a very nice phone chat with my friend Amber, from Baltimore. HI AMBER!!

It's almost midnight and I have group tomorrow morning. See you guys soon.

The bane of my existence.

Golf - Iron 5

Anyway, my best club today was by far the 7, which is lame, because everyone does good with a 7. I've been told that if I can hit with the 5, I can hit with any club in my bag. That remains to be seen, because I only got a couple or three good hits off my 5 today. I didn't do as well as I wanted in general. Of course I'd like to be more consistent, which just means that I need to get out there and practice more. I've come a long way, seeing as how I rarely made contact with the ball, and now, I only miss every once in awhile. I feel like such a jackass when I do that. WHIFF! How do you recover from that? You can't even pretend that you were just "practicing".

FORE!! I'll write later.

Aside from the steel pin embedded two-thirds of an inch into the bottom of my foot, today was rather pleasant. I finished my progress reports at work and even started working on the program manual again, which I have been putting off for weeks. After I get that done, I should be able to RE-start scoring MMPI-2's, which I have put off for even longer than the manual. I sat in line for thirty minutes at Jack in the Box, to get Rick and his friend Roger those new burgers with the onion rings and bacon and pork loins or whatever the hell they have in them. Finished out work, headed to Target and bought the following items:

- a new golf bag
- toilet paper
- a toothbrush
- toothpaste

I talked with Rick after work for awhile, and then I CLEANED THE APARTMENT and DID LAUNDRY and SCRUBBED THE BATHTUB and THREW THE TRASH and other sundry domestic tasks. Every dish in my house is clean.

I am feeling rather creative, and I would like to go to bed by midnight, so I'm going to go take advantage and use up the mojo I've got at the moment.

YAY!

OUCH.

Ok, so I'm making a very brief entry to let everyone know that I was carrying a pile of random craft items to my bedroom, and I dropped a few of them. Being that I was on the phone with Rick, I did not bend down to pick them up, and I continued to walk, thinking, "I will pick them up in a second." Before said thought was completed, however, I stepped right onto a huge corsage pin with my bare foot.

Nice. I am better now, but I am afraid to walk into my room without shoes, and all my shoes are IN my room....

Fate, why do you mock me?

I'll update a little later. I need to clean the bathroom. I'm on a roll.

I am still a crocheting fool.

Here is what I do: I troll Etsy.com for patterns, I buy the .pdf file, and I make little dolls that sit on this shelf. I am probably the only person who loves these dolls, but I don't care. They make me ridiculously happy everytime I look at them. Beady eyes!!!

On a more boring note, I was extremely productive at work, having completed two sets of client notes, and half of my progress reports, as well as having a meeting with my boss, and telling the resident office pervert how lame he is. After work, I headed over to the "DRRVNG RRNGE" to practice. Rick is an excellent teacher and I am actually excited about golf. I did ok, better than the last time I was out there, but I also realized that I cannot, for the life of me, hit a ball with that stupid 5 iron. So next time, that's all I'm practicing with. I do enjoy hitting with that little sand wedge. Even the name is cute. SAND WEDGE!!!

Ok. I am going over to Rick's now, and I will sit on his couch and practice the shell stitch while he works on the motor for the Extra.

YAY PRODUCTIVITY!!

HEY, I DID IT.

Do you see my dumb little banner up there? It's ridiculous, but I'm having to learn PSP8 all over again. What in the world is a raster layer? I will just continue to depend on the kindness of others.

Ok, I need to get busy. I just got a wild hair.

I am a crappy blogger. But here's why.

I have been doing things like working and crocheting and gluing things and sitting on the beach - ok, the one time I have been to the beach, I sat on it. There are a lot of updates since my last blog entry, which was an entirely different blog service and and entirely different Point In Life, as they say.

There are a few things I have to do before I get into full swing with this blog. I've updated my computer, which I'm quite happy with, but I also need to either fix or replace my digital camera, which is beginning to exasperate me to no end. I also need to make a new email listing to get his new location out to those of you who were actually following my blog (thank you!).

I am happy. I am busy. I am focused. I am relaxed.
...a good start to anything, if you ask me. I'll update soon!
